Man sentenced to probation for assault

A 59-year-old man pleaded guilty to serious and aggravated assault and battery during a recent trial at the Orangeburg County Courthouse.

Willie James Wright, 59, of 147 E. Edgefield Drive, Summerville, entered the plea before Circuit Judge Heath P. Taylor. Wright was initially charged with attempted murder.


Taylor sentenced him to seven years in prison. Because Wright has already served three days in jail, his sentence was suspended for up to three years of probation.

• Mark Vanburen Rollings, 62, of 2143 Middleton Street, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to third-degree domestic violence.

Taylor sentenced him to 90 days in jail. Because Rollings has already served two days in jail, his sentence was suspended to two years of probation.

• John Charles Simmons, 52, of 11498 Old Number Six Highway, Eutawville, pleaded guilty to hit-and-run causing property damage.

Taylor sentenced him to five days in jail and gave him credit for time served.

• Bobby Wade Slack, 22, of 258 Ash Hill Drive, Eutawville, pleaded guilty to first-offense possession with intent to distribute a controlled drug, except flunitrazepam.

Because Slack has already served two days in jail, Taylor sentenced him to two years of probation.

He also ordered Slack to undergo substance abuse counseling and submit to random drug and alcohol testing.

Slack's first-offense charge of possession of scheduled drugs was dismissed.

• Jyahalil Tayvon Shemarr Smith, 24, of 201 Duncan Street, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to unlawful carrying of a pistol.

Taylor ordered him to pay a $100 fine within 90 days or report to jail for 30 days.

• Herbert Henry Elijah Smith II, 24, of Casa Court, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to third-degree domestic violence.

Taylor sentenced him to 90 days in jail. Because Smith has already served two days, his sentence was suspended to a two-year probationary period.

• Angela Darlene Still, 36, of 636 May Road, Olar, pleaded guilty to possession of a stolen vehicle valued at $2,000 or less and distribution of methamphetamine first offense.

Taylor sentenced her to five years in prison. After Still serves two years, his sentence will be suspended for a two-year probationary period.

She is also serving a two-year prison sentence concurrently for a Lexington County charge of first-offense distribution of methamphetamine.

Taylor credited Still with having already served 32 days in jail.

Once she is on probation, Still must complete drug counseling and submit to random drug and alcohol testing.

Still's criminal conspiracy charge was dropped.

• Matthew Craig Strock, 48, of 143 Crossover Road, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic violence.

Taylor sentenced him to three years in prison. Because Strock had already served two days in jail, his sentence was suspended to a two-year probationary period.

Strock's third-degree domestic violence charge was dismissed.

• James Summers, 28, of 1120 Wolfe Trail, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to unlawful carrying of a pistol.

Taylor sentenced him to 28 days in jail and gave him credit for time served.

Summers was charged with the following offenses, but they were dismissed: first offense uninsured motor vehicle charge and first offense possession of one ounce or less of marijuana.

• Robert Alan Thomas, 66, of 200 Amaker Lane, Moncks Corner, pleaded guilty to second-offense possession of one gram or less of methamphetamine or cocaine base.

Taylor sentenced him to 90 days in jail. Thomas was credited with having already served 68 days.

• Jonathan Eric Vaughan, 39, of 105 Scarlet Drive, Cordova, pleaded guilty to grand larceny valued at more than $2,000 but less than $10,000 and two counts of first-offense possession under gram of methamphetamine or cocaine base, although he was initially charged with two counts of distribution of methamphetamine for the first offense.

Taylor sentenced him to five years in prison. Because Vaughan has already served 28 days in jail, his sentence was suspended for up to three years of probation.

Taylor also ordered him to submit to random drug and alcohol testing and continue his treatment at Oxford House.

Vaughan was charged with intentional injury to personal property valued at more than $2,000 to less than $10,000 and possession of a stolen vehicle valued at more than $2,000 to less than 10,000 $. These accusations were dismissed.

• John George Walling Jr., 41, of 2927 Bamberg Highway, Hampton, pleaded guilty to two counts of forgery under $10,000 and first-offense fraudulent check valued at $1,000 or less.

Taylor sentenced him to two years in prison. Because Walling has already served 13 days in jail, his sentence was suspended for up to five years of probation and restitution.

• Joseph Santee Washington, 42, of 630 Whaley St., Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to second offense driving under the influence less than 0.10 and first offense driving with a suspended license not suspended for driving while intoxicated.

Taylor sentenced him to 60 days in jail and fined $1,100. Washington can only serve his prison sentence on weekends.

• Alaysia Tiona Watson, 24, of 875 White Sands Road, Holly Hill, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic violence, although she was initially charged with domestic violence of a serious and aggravated nature.

Because Watson has already served two days in jail, his sentence was suspended to two years of probation.

• Torre Avonte Webb, 30, of 441 Alva Street, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to trespassing and shoplifting $2,000 or less with enhancement.

Taylor sentenced him to a year in prison and gave him credit for having already served 57 days in prison.

• Andre Deshawn White, 42, of 8010 Old State Road, Cameron, pleaded guilty to first-offense possession of a scheduled drug and first-offense possession of one ounce of marijuana.

Taylor sentenced him to six months in prison. Because White has already served two days in jail, his sentence was suspended to one year of probation.

• Natavia Chrishonda White, 24, of 201 Folly Road, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic violence, although she was initially charged with domestic violence of a serious and aggravated nature.

Taylor sentenced her under the Young Offenders Act to a term not exceeding three years. Because she served two days in jail, her sentence was suspended for up to one year of probation.

• Bryan Riley Williams, 65, of 107 Cypress Shores Road, Eutawville, pleaded guilty to second-offense possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine/cocaine base.

Taylor sentenced him to three years in prison. Because Williams has already served 17 days in jail, his sentence was suspended to two years of probation. Williams must also complete substance abuse counseling and submit to random drug and alcohol testing.

• Timothy David Woodson, 66, of 1499 Joe Jefferson Highway, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a machine gun or sawed-off shotgun.

Taylor sentenced him to three years in prison. Because Woodson has already served one day in jail, his sentence was suspended for up to six months of probation.

• Antonio D. Stokes, 40, of 905 Harlin Street, Elloree, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-offense possession of a controlled substance.

Taylor sentenced him to six months in prison. Because Stokes served 190 days in jail, his sentence was suspended to one year of probation.

Stokes faced the following charges, but they were dismissed:

• Trafficking for first offense of more than 100 dosage units but less than 500 dosage units of MDMA

• Possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime

• First time possession with intent to distribute a controlled drug

• Possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance near a school
