Man sentenced to life in 2022 by gunshot

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The man convicted in a Lansing Township shooting that left one man injured and another dead will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Anthony Anderson, Jr. was convicted by a jury in April for the New Year's Eve shooting. The crime injured Shaquille Brown and killed music producer Curshawn Terrell, 40. Terrell was better known as “Kaz.”

“You took my niece’s father away from her,” Crystal Terrell, Kaz’s sister, told Anderson in court Monday. “Her father was her superman – everything to her. He would do anything in the world for her. Your children can talk to you. My niece will never be able to do that again.

Ingham County Circuit Court Judge James Jamo sentenced Anderson to life in prison Monday, ending a year-long quest for justice.

Lansing Township police were called to a recording studio on Michigan Avenue on New Year's Eve 2022 and found the two men who had been shot. Terrell died at a local hospital.

Anderson was arrested and charged on January 4, 2023.

After Anderson's sentencing, Ingham County Prosecutor John Dewane had this to say about the 2022 shooting.

“This was a brutal and senseless crime, and Mr. Terrell’s death was a great loss to our community. He was loved, respected and missed by all,” Dewane said in a press release in April. “I think the jury made the right decision in this case. First degree murder is the most heinous of all crimes and I believe the impending sentence reflects this.

It is possible that Anderson will appeal his sentence and perhaps the trial process in the future.
