Man sentenced to 6 years in prison for solicitation of a minor after sending message to East Texas undercover investigator

TRINITY COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – A man was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to solicitation of a minor, Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace announced Tuesday.

Steven Myers, 47, was arrested after authorities said he made inappropriate advances toward a minor while she was at work. The minor told her parents, who contacted the sheriff's office, leading to an undercover investigation that lasted several weeks.

According to Wallace, an investigator sent a message to Myers while he was undercover, with Myers attempting to solicit sexual favors from someone he thought was a girl under 17 years old. Officials said Myers also sent explicit photos to who he thought was a minor and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

“Steven Myers ultimately made arrangements to meet with the alleged juvenile and was taken into custody without incident,” officials said. “Other than the initial encounter, the victim in this case was never in communication with, exposed to, or put in danger by Steven Myers.”

Myers was later sentenced to six years in prison and a lifetime registration as a sex offender.
