Man sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for murdering his mother

22 times, almost decapitating her. This is, as I have said for more than a decade on the bench, one of the most brutal murders over which I have presided. Those were the judge's words just before sentencing Thomas Humphrey of Goffstown to 40 years in prison for the murder of his mother, Lynda Tufts. Humphrey stabbed his mother 22 times, nearly decapitating her, then set her body on fire after they got into an argument about her playing video games too hard. The estranged family, the heartbreak, the anger, the pain that continues on you has taken one of our family matriarchs, and it is completely unforgivable. When police arrived at the house, they found fire and Humphrey at the bottom of the basement stairs with self-inflicted wounds, holding a knife. Humphrey was charged with second-degree murder and arson. He pleaded guilty to the brutality of this crime and, uh, just makes it too dangerous. DO NOT PRINT A VERY LONG STATE PRISON SENTENCE. And Humphrey was also convicted of arson. TODAY HE will serve a sentence of 5 to 10 years, and both sentences will be served.

Thomas Humphrey was living in his mother's basement at the time of the murder. She had just given him a PlayStation for his 47th birthday, and the two were arguing about how loud he was playing video games before she was stabbed 22 times and nearly decapitated.
