Man sentenced to 2 years in prison for drunk driving and hitting ISP agent

INDIANAPOLIS — A man who was driving drunk and crashed into an Indiana State Police trooper, seriously injuring him, was sentenced Friday to two years in prison.

Armaandeep Singh, 22, accepted a plea deal in connection with a crash that seriously injured Trooper Azariah Keith while he was helping someone change a flat tire on Interstate 65.

Singh's sentence was suspended for three years and he was sentenced to two years of probation. His license will also be suspended for two years after serving his prison sentence.

On Jan. 20, Trooper Keith, 22, stopped on the left shoulder of southbound I-65 near 30th Street and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street exit to assist a car stuck changing its tire on the highway.

Another soldier was blocking the left lane to regulate traffic, the FAI said.

As Trooper Keith was putting his tools back in the trunk of his car, Singh lost control of the vehicle, drove around the trooper who was blocking the left lane and struck Trooper Keith, according to the ISP.

Private Keith was in critical condition. According to court documents, he suffered a fractured pelvis and fibula. The additional injuries were not explained.

Trooper Azariah Keith has been released from the hospital after being struck by an allegedly intoxicated driver on southbound I-65 while helping to change a flat tire.

Singh was charged with two counts of causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while intoxicated and one court charge of reckless driving causing bodily injury.

As part of the plea deal, he pleaded guilty to only one charge of causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
