Man sentenced for threatening to kill person at University of Arizona

PHOENIX — A Tucson man was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to threatening to commit a mass shooting at the University of Arizona last October, authorities said.

Michael Pengchung Lee, 27, was sentenced to 16 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

On October 22, Lee posted threats in a Snapchat group chat to commit a mass shooting at the university.

Lee is not a college student, but he has expressed a desire to get revenge on “all the chads and stacies!!,” a term used by self-proclaimed involuntary celibates (incels).

He ended the conversation by saying, “I'm going to do it guys, my mind is made up and there's nothing you can do or say to stop me.”

On April 10, Lee admitted to sending the Snapchat messages, which referenced the ideology, language, and motivations of intelligence agencies, including a notorious incel and self-proclaimed mass shooter.

He also admitted to threatening to commit a mass shooting in at least two other Snapchat conversations, citing the same ideology and motivations.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the University of Arizona Police Department conducted the investigation.
