Man sentenced for role in deadly 2021 shooting | Crime and court

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WFFT) – A man has been sentenced for his role in a deadly shooting that occurred on May 2, 2021.

Tony Jackson, 31, was sentenced to 65 years in prison for murder.

On May 2, 2021, at approximately 5:53 a.m., police responded to a shooting and found Daniel Nolan suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the chest. Doctors pronounced him dead at 6 a.m.

According to case documents, Nolan was with Witness 1 earlier that night. Witness 1 stated that he and Nolan went to Club 44, 4030 Coldwater Road and that Nolan reported several subjects in the club and told Witness 1 to watch for them because they had robbed Nolan in the past.

Around 3 a.m., some of the people Nolan previously mentioned got into an argument with Witness 1 and Nolan also became involved.

Security came and told them they had to leave, according to investigators.

Witness 1 told police that after leaving Club 44, he and Nolan went to the barbershop at S. Lafayette Street and McKinnie Avenue to pick up Witness 1's vehicle.

Witness 1 stated that he drove home and Nolan was supposed to drive home. Later, Witness 1 said he received a phone call from another friend who told him that they had stopped by the barbershop and noticed Nolan's vehicle running with the lights on and that Nolan had pulled away. passed out in the driver's seat.

Witness 1 said he tried to call Nolan several times to wake him up around 4:52 a.m., but never got an answer.

Witness 1 said his girlfriend drove him and found Nolan passed out behind the wheel, with Nolan's gun in his lap.

Witness 1 made a Snapchat video showing him opening the passenger side door of Nolan's vehicle and Witness 1 began laughing and yelling at Nolan to wake up.

According to the documents, Nolan raises his hands and smiles.

Witness 1 testified that he was eventually able to wake Nolan enough to drive home and that he and his girlfriend followed him home. Once they arrived at Nolan's house and Nolan parked, Witness 1 and his girlfriend left.

Police said security video from a gas station showed two people pulling out of the driveway, walking slowly toward the parked car and starting shooting before fleeing.

Officers at the scene said all of the shell casings were grouped together in such a way that the shooting occurred before reaching the vehicle and that the tight grouping of bullet holes on the vehicle suggested that the shooter was motionless for most of the time. shootings.

On July 21, 2021, Tony Jackson was arrested on unrelated charges. When asked about the night Nolan was shot, Jackson said he and Witness 8 went to Nolan's house to buy weed.

Jackson said he found Nolan asleep in his car with his gun in his lap and did not want to wake Nolan.

Jackson said they returned to Witness 8's house.

According to documents, Witness 9 called his son Tony about an argument with Nolan, which could be the same thing that his sons, Witnesses 5 and 6, were seen arguing with Nolan at Club 44.

Police said they believe Jackson became angry and went to his mother's house and picked up Witness 5.

Police believe Witness 5 and Jackson were picked up by Witness 8 and drove to the area in Nolan's car.

Documents state that Witness 8 parked his vehicle while Jackson and Witness 5 walked over to where Nolan was sleeping and shot him.
