Man sentenced for making fake threatening call to Vinita school – Newstalk KZRG

A New Mexico man who made false threats against Vinita Oklahoma High School in 2021 has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

James Thomas Andrew McCarty, 21, pleaded guilty to two separate counts related to scam calls that prompted police SWAT responses.

McCarty used the names of real students at the high schools he called. McCarty also pleaded guilty to two separate counts of aggravated identity theft because he used the identity of a real individual in the calls.

On January 25, 2021, McCarty made repeated phone calls to two different high schools.

In the first series of prank calls to an Indiana high school, McCarty called school officials letting them know he was a student at the school, while using the real name of a student there, and that he was outside the school with an AR-15. rifle, a Glock handgun and propane tanks ready to shoot up the school.
