Man sentenced for bomb threat to medical device factory

ALBANY – The Fulton County man convicted of threatening to bomb and burn down the NAMIC plant in Glens Falls in 2020 has been sentenced to 33 months in prison.

Jesse Bedell, 36, of Mayfield, was arrested in January 2020 after he made numerous threats to bomb the Glans Falls medical device factory after the company failed to hire him.

United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Matthew Scarpino, Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations, announced Bedell's conviction in a press release this week, following a jury trial two days in February 2024.

Bedell applied to work at the NAMIC division of Medline Industries in Glens Falls and had received a conditional job offer contingent on passing a background check.

“Bedell, however, did not disclose a prior criminal conviction,” the release said. “As a result, on January 9, 2020, Medline withdrew its employment offer. The next morning, Bedell telephoned Medline employees in Neptune, New Jersey and Northfield, Illinois and threatened to burn and bomb the Glens Falls plant. Bedell also threatened to kill the Illinois employee.

An investigation by the Glens Falls Police Department found that there was no indication that Bedell planned to follow through on the threats, but the plant was evacuated following the threat and a police bomb detection team d The state with search dogs was brought in at the request of the company. to check the building. Police were able to trace the threatening calls to Bedell, who police said initially admitted he was responsible.

U.S. District Judge Mae A. D'Agostino also sentenced Bedell to three years of post-release supervision, which will begin upon his release from prison.

NAMIC's manufacturing facility was acquired by Medline in 2019. The company did not immediately respond to a media request for comment for this article.
