Man robbed restaurant, fled, fired gun

FISHERS, Ind. — Officers with the Fishers Police Department arrested a man after he allegedly robbed a local restaurant, fled police and fired a handgun early Sunday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m., FPD officers were called to the Taco Bell on Allisonville Road on a report of a theft and carjacking. According to FPD, they had received preliminary information suggesting that three men had entered through the window of the drive-in, demanding money with guns drawn. One of these suspects also allegedly stole a vehicle belonging to a Taco Bell employee. No one was injured in the attempted robbery, police said.


FPD wrote that they located the stolen vehicle southbound on Allisonville Road and conducted a traffic stop. According to a press release, the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as Fredrick Nance, 24, exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

With the help of a K-9 team, officers chased Nance. During that pursuit, officers heard a gunshot, according to a news release. However, no officers or the K-9 were struck by a bullet and no one was injured.

Flint police said they were able to catch up with Nance and take him into custody through a canine patrol. As noted in the release, Nance had several pieces of evidence belonging to the victims. A Glock with a machine gun conversion device was also found near the scene, police said.

Fishers police said Nance confessed to robbery, carjacking and shooting during an interview. A news release said he is being held on 12 preliminary charges:

  • Flight
  • Intimidation
  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Flight
  • Theft Auto
  • Pointing a gun at another person
  • Criminal detention while armed with a deadly weapon
  • Resisting law enforcement
  • Resisting law enforcement using a vehicle
  • Criminal recklessness using a deadly weapon
  • Kidnapping with deadly weapon
  • Possession of a machine gun

Flint police are asking for help from authorities in locating the other suspects involved in the attempted robbery. If anyone has information, they are asked to call (317) 595-3300.
