LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A hit-and-run near Waverly Sunday night resulted in the forced arrest of a Weeping Water man.

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office was called to the intersection of Highway 34 and 148th Street just after 7 p.m. on reports of a hit-and-run.

A Chevrolet Impala slammed into the back of a BMW that was stopped at the intersection, Deputy Chief Ben Houchin said at a news conference.

According to Houchin, a 14-year-old passenger in the BMW suffered minor head and neck injuries.

Houchin said the two drivers got out to exchange information, but then the driver of the Impala decided to leave.

Deputies recognized the Impala driving near Waverly and conducted a traffic stop, according to Houchin.

Rodney Bottorff, 60, was identified as the driver.

Officers said there was a strong odor of marijuana and alcohol coming from the car.

Houchin said there was an open container and drug paraphernalia in the car.

Bottorff told deputies he was going to resist arrest and “began to struggle,” according to Houchin.

They threw Bottorff to the ground and handcuffed him, Houchin said.

Bottorff had a blood alcohol level of 0.191%, more than double the legal limit.

This is the second time Bottorff has resisted arrest, resulting in a crime, Houchin said.

It was also his second DUI, according to the sheriff's office.

Bottorff was booked into the Lancaster County Jail on multiple charges, including aggravated drunken driving, resisting arrest and fleeing the scene of an accident with injury.
