Man rescued after 40-foot fall near base of Sahalie Falls, Oregon

A 74-year-old man was rescued Wednesday after falling nearly 40 feet from a cliff near the base of Sahalie Falls, northeast of the McKenzie Bridge.

The Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District responded to the incident at 10:32 a.m. Wednesday and rescue crews found the man near the base of the falls with bystanders providing aid.

“Fortunately, he suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but he was unable to walk and was extremely cold due to his proximity to the falls,” the fire department said in a news release.

Lane and Linn County Search and Rescue teams set up a rope system to lift the man “up a cliff to the trail where he was then carried back to the parking lot about a half mile away “, the press release said.

The man was then taken by Life Flight to Riverbend Hospital. The helicopter temporarily closed Route 126.
