Man repeatedly stabs Richland Parish deputies, sheriff asks for prayers for injured

RICHLAND PARISH, La. (KNOE) – A man has been arrested in Richland Parish for attempted first-degree murder.

On Thursday, June 6 at approximately 6:26 p.m., deputies with the Richland Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a call that Colby Bazan, 23, had threatened some members of his family. When authorities arrived on scene, Bazan was nowhere to be found.

RPSO said they obtained an arrest warrant for Bazan on charges of simple assault and criminal trespass. They then contacted him by phone and he agreed to go to the sheriff's office. When Bazan arrived around 11 p.m., police told him he was under arrest and then fled on foot.

According to RPSO, deputies were able to catch up with him and a fight began. Officials said Bazan — who had a knife — stabbed two deputies multiple times.

Deputies disarmed Bazan and took him into custody. He was taken to the Richland Parish Detention Center where he was booked on charges of simple assault, criminal trespass and three counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Bail was set at $1,000,000.

The stabbed deputies were taken to Richardson Medical Center to be treated for their injuries. They have since been released.

In a social media post, RPSO said in part:

“Sheriff Gary Gilley would like to express his gratitude to the Rayville Police Department for their quick response to this incident. He also wishes to ask for prayers for the injured deputies and a speedy recovery.
