Man re-arrested after setting bond, accused of threatening Farmington Hills police

FARMINGTON HILLS, Michigan. – A man recently arrested by police in Farmington Hills was arrested again for what he allegedly told them during a phone call about the initial arrest.

Shawn Bonner now faces a much more serious charge. He was arrested for making terroristic threats against the Farmington Hills Police Department.

“He indicated that he was going to use a gang to not only attack our officers, but shoot and kill our officers,” Chief Jeff King said.

The police took these threats very seriously, as did the county attorney.

Bonner is reportedly a member of the Sovereign Citizen movement, an anti-government extremist group. He was arrested during a traffic stop by Farmington Hills officers after they discovered he had a warrant for his arrest for resisting.

King said police body camera footage showed him jumping in the backseat of his girlfriend's car and using her children to avoid going to jail.

“He retreated into a seat, barricading himself between the two young infants, their car seats,” King said.

Police eventually made an arrest after defusing the situation, but after being granted bail, Bonner allegedly began calling the police station.

It even becomes personal for an officer.

“This individual was able to contact the family member of one of our police officers and make a threat indicating that the individual not only knew the location of the police officer, his family members, but also to indicate that no one “It was safe at this point all along,” King said.

Bonner was found and taken into custody in the same manner – another barricaded situation with the girlfriend and children in the car.

“Our officers did a phenomenal job negotiating and trying to talk him out of that car for 45 minutes,” King said. “We managed to break the window and stop him.”

He now faces new charges of making terrorist threats. Bail was set at $100,000.
