Man raped teenage girl in 25-year tirade of abuse against seven victims

A MAN guilty of a 25-year campaign of physical and sexual abuse has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Robert McGeachy attacked seven victims, including the rapes of a teenage girl and a woman.

The 63-year-old was found guilty of a total of 17 charges following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

The crimes took place between 1978 and 2003 at various addresses across the city, including the East End and the Southside.

McGeachy – who has denied the accusations – returned to the dock today.

Judge John McCormick said he had listened to the “compelling evidence” provided by those who had suffered at the hands of McGeachy.

He added: “The charges represent a catalog of sexual and violent offenses.”

The first victim was a young child who McGeachy, from the town's Cardonald, sexually abused.

He then attacked another young person before raping a teenage girl.

One attack saw McGeachy stuff a cloth into his mouth and tie his hands behind his back.

McGeachy then raped a woman and also put a knife to her throat.

He was then repeatedly violent towards another woman who saw her being strangled, hit on the head and having a finger stuck in her eye.

McGeachy also hit her, bit her ear and held her during a bath.

A young child was then belted with a slipper, punched and hit in the head.

He eventually slapped another child and hit him with a slipper.

McGeachy was also placed indefinitely on the sex offender list today.
