Man killed, woman seriously injured in triple stabbing in New York

New York: Three people were stabbed, one fatally, Sunday evening in Manhattan's East Village, and one man was in custody, police officials said.

One of the victims, a 38-year-old man, died after being stabbed in the neck near East 14th Street near Avenue A, police said. The other two victims were a 51-year-old woman who was stabbed in the leg and a 32-year-old man who was stabbed in the back. The woman was in critical condition at Bellevue Hospital and the man was in stable condition.

A 30-year-old man was in custody and a “sharp instrument” was recovered at the scene, authorities said. It was unclear Sunday whether he would be charged in the stabbings or whether he knew the victims.

Police received several 911 calls around 5:45 p.m. about the stabbing. Fozlul Karim, 22, of the Bronx, who is the manager of a Domino's Pizza in the neighborhood, said he was cooking when a customer ran into the store. The customer told him that several people had been stabbed and he rushed outside.

He and dozens of others watched as officers and emergency responders on 14th Street, between First Avenue and Avenue A, put the woman on a stretcher and wheeled her to an ambulance, according to video of the scene taken by Karim on cell phone. A police officer shouted “Move, move, move!” » to get people to move away.

Karim said he was shaken by this episode. “We are afraid,” he said.

Hours after the attack, Olivia McLeod, 24, who lives across the street, was standing near the scene. Several pieces of bloodstained clothing were scattered on the sidewalk.

The stabbing, McLeod said, shook her.

“From now on, I will keep my head turned,” she said.
