BERKELEY — A man who died Wednesday evening after authorities said he was struck by an Amtrak train near Aquatic Park was identified Friday by the coroner's office as Malik Cross, 28, of Oakland.

Cross was struck about 10:50 p.m. Wednesday on the railroad tracks near Grayson Street by a Coast Starlight train traveling from Los Angeles to Seattle, authorities said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not said why they believe Cross was on the tracks.

None of the 198 passengers or crew members on board the train were injured.

The train was delayed for more than two hours while authorities investigated the scene.

Amtrak continues to work with local law enforcement to investigate the death, officials said.
