Man killed in police-involved shooting in Brentwood area

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. – A man was killed in a police-involved shooting in the Brentwood area at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Investigators said a black sedan stopped at the intersection of 27th Street and Main, near Andrew Jackson High School.

Police said the driver's side door opened and there was a struggle between the driver and an individual in the back seat and they exchanged words.

The driver backed up and fired several shots into the car.

At the same time, a JSO officer stopped and saw the man shooting, so he fired at the suspect, striking him several times.

Before the shooting began, one person ran from the vehicle.

JSO said it was interviewing several witnesses and ending surveillance of surrounding businesses.

The attorney general's office is conducting its own investigation.

Police have not said whether the man who ran from the car is considered a suspect, they just need to find him and talk to him.

This is the third police-involved shooting in Jacksonville.
