Man killed in overnight shooting near Power and Light, KCPD says

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting near the Power and Light District in downtown Kansas City early Sunday morning.

According to KCPD, officers were dispatched to the area of ​​12th Street and Grand Street just before 3:30 a.m. following a reported shooting.


Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in a parking lot and attempted life-saving measures before emergency responders arrived. When emergency responders arrived, they pronounced the man deceased.

KCPD said a large crowd gathered in the parking lot just before the victim was shot.

Detectives and crime scene personnel are investigating this case as a homicide and are currently gathering evidence to determine what led to the shooting.
