Man killed in Independence shooting identified by police

Independence police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting earlier this month. Donnie Kirkland, 20, was shot and killed in the area of ​​Sundown Drive and Claremont Avenue just before 1 p.m. on June 5. Authorities say Kirkland's body was found lying in the middle of the road. He was pronounced dead an hour after the shooting. Kirkland lived in Independence. It is not yet known whether a suspect is in custody in connection with the shooting.
