Man killed in Cayuga County tractor-trailer crash identified; passenger in critical condition

Victory, New York — A 37-year-old man who died in Cayuga County after the pickup truck he was in collided with a tractor-trailer has been identified.

The man killed was Enoelio S. Cortez-Lajuj, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.

All five people in the van were taken to Upstate University Hospital, deputies said. Cortez-Lajuj was pronounced dead in the upstate.

Around 1:35 p.m. Monday, officers responded to Route 38, at the intersection of Route 370, in the town of Victory for a report of a motor vehicle accident, the sheriff's office said .

Deputies said the pickup truck, which was traveling south on Route 38, failed to yield at a stop sign. The truck found itself in the path of an eastbound tractor-trailer when the two collided, they said.

The driver of the pickup, Kevin Valle, 44, is in stable condition while his passenger Loida O. Corado-Quinonez, 25, is in critical condition, they said.

Two other passengers – Lorena Y. Ibanez-Diaz, 30, and Yosselin M. Ibanez-Diaz, 27, were treated and released from the hospital, deputies said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Serhiy Pokhodun, 61, of Ontario, was not injured in the crash, they said.
