Man killed in Aurora shooting

Police said the suspect fell from a moving car while trying to flee.

AURORA, Colo. — A suspect has been arrested after a deadly shooting in Aurora Friday evening.

The Aurora Police Department said officers responded to a call about shots fired at a home in the 3600 block of South Zeno Way around 10:45 p.m. Friday. It's near East Hampden Avenue and South Tower Road.

When they arrived, they saw a man walking away.

APD said additional officers followed the car and when the suspect turned around, he fell from the moving vehicle. The car then crashed nearby.

Police said the suspect was taken to the hospital and is now in custody there, facing a charge of first-degree murder. He was identified as 43-year-old Gilbert Vermillion.

The police discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. They tried to save his life, but he later died in hospital. The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office will release his name.
