A 37-year-old man is in custody for allegedly robbing and stabbing another man at a homeless encampment along Interstate 205 near North Tracy Boulevard on June 10.

A press release from the California Highway Patrol says Anthony Joaquin Blancarte was arrested June 13 for stabbing and robbery.

The investigation began when Tracy police were called at 4:34 p.m. to reports of a stabbing in the 3800 block of North Tracy Boulevard. Police found a 45-year-old victim who was stabbed near a noise barrier.

Police said the man was in stable condition and the investigation was turned over to the CHP because the incident occurred in their jurisdiction.

The Tracy Area CHP stepped in to handle the initial investigation before the CHP Valley Division Investigative Services Unit (ISU) took over.

CHP investigators received assistance from Tracy police and were able to identify Blancarte, who they describe as a transient passing through the Tracy area, as the suspect. CHP ISU investigators arrested him in a residential area of ​​Tracy without incident.

Blancarte was taken to the San Joaquin County Jail and is being held on $1,150,000 bail for attempted murder and robbery.

He is scheduled to appear Monday in the Manteca Branch of San Joaquin Superior Court.
