Man in custody for 2007 fatal shooting of teen in Hartford

A man is in custody in connection with an unsolved murder case that occurred in 2007, when an 18-year-old man was found shot multiple times on Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford.

Ramon Smith, 35, was extradited to Connecticut from Warren, Maine, where he was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant, charging him with murder and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the 2027 death of 18-year-old Joshua McClelland. , according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.

On March 25, 2007, patrol officers responded to a call of a shooting victim in the area of ​​250 Blue Hills Avenue around 6:30 p.m., Boisvert said.

Arriving officers located a male victim, identified as McClelland, with multiple gunshot wounds. The Hartford teen was transported to Saint Francis Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to Boisvert.

Patrol officers secured the crime scene and Hartford police's major crimes and crime scenes divisions took over the investigation, Boisvert said.

“After a thorough investigation by the Hartford Police Department's Major Crimes Division, in conjunction with the Connecticut Division of Justice's Cold Case Unit, probable cause was established and an arrest warrant was issued. obtained, charging Ramon Smith with murder and criminal possession of a firearm,” Boisvert said.

Smith remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail.
