Man in critical condition after stabbing in Elko

ELKO, Nev. (KOLO) – One man is in critical condition and another is in custody after police say an early morning argument in Elko over a debt turned violent.

Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the Elko Police Department were called to a motel in the 2000 block of Idaho Street for reports of a man who had been stabbed. Officers arrived to find a man bleeding from his chest and saying he had been attacked.

He was taken to the hospital and flown to Utah for more advanced medical treatment.

The suspect was later identified as Michael Elizondo, 44, of Elko. He was located at an apartment complex in the 600 block of Cedar Street in Elko and was taken into custody without incident.

Police say this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.
