Man in critical condition after his sedan becomes lodged under dump truck and catches fire on I-95 – Action News Jax

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after a sedan slammed into the back of a dump truck and burst into flames on I-95 in St. Johns County.

According to the accident report, around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday, a 27-year-old man from Cincinnati, Ohio, was driving a white sedan at a high rate of speed on I-95 northbound in the center lane. At the same time, a 33-year-old Jacksonville man was driving a dump truck in the center lane.

The front of the sedan crashed into the rear of the dump truck at kilometer 320 and became lodged underneath. The St. Johns County Fire Department said the sedan then caught fire. The dump truck dragged the sedan to its final stop on the paved east shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the sedan was seriously injured and was transported to HCA Orange Park. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

FHP said the crash was still under investigation, but the roads were clear for the morning commute.
