Man identified in Gaston County double shooting by juvenile suspect

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Ronnie Ray Welch, 38, has been identified as the victim who died in a shooting in Gaston County Friday evening, according to the Gaston County Police Department.

Authorities said the suspect is a juvenile whose information will not be released due to his age. No charges have been mentioned at this time.

A little after 10 p.m. on Friday, June 7, officers responded to the area of ​​Pine Street and Shamrock Road in Gastonia after receiving reports of a shooting.

When officials arrived, they found Welch and another suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital where Welch died from his injuries, police said. The other person remains in stable condition.
