Man identified in East Alton shooting | Local News

The Madison County coroner has identified the man involved in a shooting last week in East Alton. Shannon Musgraves, 47, died early Friday from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded Thursday evening to a report of shots fired in the 200 block of Lakeside Drive.

East Alton Police have requested assistance from the Illinois State Police in investigating what happened. The initial report says police responded to the call of shots fired late Thursday night and a subject then shot him and police returned fire. No police officers were injured and the person barricaded himself in a residence for several hours. Multiple police agencies then responded to the scene and after several hours, a police tactical team entered the home and found Musgraves already deceased. ISP investigators will turn over their findings to the Madison County State's Attorney.
