Man identified after shooting at UNC Health in Clayton, SBI says

CLAYTON, N.C. (WNCN) — A man has been identified after he was shot and killed by a Johnston County sheriff's deputy after investigators say the man tried to grab the deputy's gun .

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation identified the man as Jose Luis Rincon Lopez.

On Monday, June 10, the Johnston County Sheriff's Office said that around 5:46 a.m., Deputy Jonathan Lee, 32, left UNC Health Johnston County. As Lee tried to exit the parking lot, Lopez confronted him and attempted to take his gun. After a struggle, Lee retrieved his gun and shot Lopez.

The SBI said the investigation is still ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
