SALISBURY — A man has been charged after deputies say marijuana was found on him while he was booked into jail after being arrested for hanging out with a 15-year-old runaway.

Officers first went to the area of Furniture Drive around 3 a.m. Wednesday after a parent reported their teenage daughter had run away from home and not returned, the deputy chief said Salisbury Police Department spokesman Jason Owens. Officers allegedly found her in the 100 block of Furniture Drive, hanging out with 23-year-old Jermaine Tye Wade.

Wade was reportedly arrested by deputies and charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was transported to the Rowan County magistrate's office, where deputies asked him before entering the building and after leaving whether he was carrying any controlled substances or weapons that would result in additional charges if he was being taken to the Rowan County Detention Center, Owens said.

As officers searched Wade to check him into the detention center, a clear baggie filled with marijuana fell out of his pants, Owens said. Deputies then charged Wade with additional charges of criminal possession of a controlled substance on the premises of a correctional institution and possession of 0.5 to 1.5 ounces of marijuana.

Wade was booked into the detention center and given a $2,501 bond, according to sheriff's office records.
