Man found dead while searching for missing woman on Hawaii island

KEAAU (HawaiiNewsNow) – On the island of Hawaii, a missing persons case continues and police are now also investigating the death of a man at Hawaiian Paradise Park.

Police are preparing for an operation at Hawaiian Paradise Park in Keaau Thursday afternoon.

Authorities were executing a search warrant at a home on 15th Avenue looking for Ashley Kuregian, 38, who was last seen in the neighborhood last Tuesday.

But when officers identified themselves at the residence, they heard a “loud noise.”

They then cordoned off the area and asked nearby neighbors to stay indoors.

“A special response team cleared the residence and in doing so located the deceased body of a male,” said Lt. Zachary Fernando of the Hawaii Police Department.

“A firearm was recovered from the residence and identification is being withheld at this time pending a positive identification.”

Authorities say it appears the man committed suicide.

Meanwhile, officials said Kuregian is not at home and they are still asking the public for help finding her.

She is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 125 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She is known to frequent the Pahoa and Kalapana regions.
