Man flees East Grand Forks after shooting, then arrested in Grand Forks

(Grand Forks, ND) – A shooting suspect in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, was arrested in Grand Forks after fleeing the scene in East Grand Forks.

According to the East Grand Forks Police Department, officers received a report of shots fired into an apartment building in the 400 block of 17th Street NW around 9 a.m. Sunday. The police arrived on scene and found no injuries.

Witnesses identified the suspect as Marko D. Ruot and said Ruot fled the scene toward East Grand Forks. The police took statements and evidence found at the scene.

Assistance was requested from the Grand Forks Police Department.

Officers from the Grand Forks Police Department and the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Department began searching for the vehicle and it was located a short time later at an apartment complex at 3387 Primrose Ct.

Officers set up a perimeter around the building and attempted to call the suspect, but there was no response.

Ultimately, the Grand Forks Regional SWAT Team was activated along with the Grand Forks Regional Bomb Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, and UAS Team.

Officers were eventually able to contact the suspect who then complied with their instructions and he was taken into custody without further incident.

East Grand Forks police said Ruot is being held at the Grand Forks County Correctional Center, where he is awaiting formal charges.
