Man fatally stabbed July 4 in southern New Jersey, police say

BRIDGETON, N.J. — A man has been charged after a fatal stabbing outside the victim's home in Cumberland County on Independence Day, authorities said.

Selvin Omar Garcia-Ramirez was charged Thursday with murder and weapons charges in the death of Edwin Lopez-Parra in Bridgeton. Garcia-Ramirez is being held in the Cumberland County Jail.

Officers responded around 3:15 a.m. to the 200 block of Atlantic Street, where Lopez-Parra was bleeding and unconscious, police said. Lopez-Parra, 26, died while en route to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.

Garcia-Ramirez, of W Commerce Street in Bridgeton, was arrested around 9 a.m. on Cedar Street.

The victim and suspect knew each other, Bridgeton Police Chief Michael Gaimari said. But he did not disclose their relationship or a motive for the attack.

According to police, this was an isolated incident.
