Man driving stolen Prius involved in two high-speed chases near Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CA (AZFamily)—Los Angeles area police were chasing a suspect who allegedly stole a car Thursday. The suspect led officers on a wild chase throughout the San Fernando Valley.

According to CBS Los Angeles, it's unclear what prompted the officer to initiate the chase, but television helicopters followed the suspect through North Hollywood, Pacoima and Sun Valley.

“At one point, the driver drove through a barrier in what appeared to be a dead-end street in front of a tire lot at Fleetwood Street and Tujunga Avenue in Sun Valley before crashing into a barrier, shattering the windshield and causing damage to the front of the car,” CBS LA reported Thursday night.

Speeds reached up to 100 mph, but varied wildly as the suspect drove on city streets and highways.

The driver then stopped in a gated community, where he could be seen fleeing the stolen car and running into a partially open garage nearby.

Shortly after, police located the suspect and took him into custody. The suspect was arrested on charges of outstanding warrants, reckless driving and fleeing from police, according to KNBC-TV Los Angeles.
