A man died in Vallejo over the weekend after apparently trying to retrieve his dog from a burning mobile home, according to firefighters.

On Sunday, fire crews were called to the area of Carolina and Tuolumne streets. Investigators said they received reports of a person entering a burning RV.

“Upon arrival, first responders encountered a fully engulfed RV parked in the driveway, posing an imminent threat to adjacent structures,” the Vallejo Fire Department said in a news release.

Authorities said a man was extricated from the vehicle and life-saving measures were taken. Emergency services transported the victim to hospital, where he died of his injuries.

Investigators said they later recovered a deceased dog from the mobile home.

“Unfortunately, it appears that the fire victim re-entered the property in an attempt to search for his dog and was overwhelmed by the fire,” firefighters said.

A nearby structure suffered minor damage, but no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was still under investigation and the name of the victim had not yet been released as of Tuesday afternoon.
