Man dies after stabbing at Jane tube station

A man died in hospital after being stabbed at the Jane subway station on Tuesday, Toronto police said.

Police said they were called to the station shortly before 6 p.m. for reports of a stabbing and an altercation.

The attack took place near a bus stop, police added.

Paramedics transported the man with life-threatening injuries to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspects fled westbound on Bloor Street, according to police, who released no description.

Police said they were continuing their investigation at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to come forward to police.

The TTC said no Line 2 subway trains were stopping at the station due to police activity.

In a statement Tuesday, TTC CEO Rick Leary said the transit agency was “shocked and saddened” to learn of the stabbing.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and loved ones at this difficult time,” he said.

Leary said the TTC will assist police as much as possible, including providing all video evidence.

He said the safety of customers and employees is “paramount” to the TTC and urged customers with information to call police.
