On Monday, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital confirmed to News 3 that the man, Rolin Hill, had died. It's unclear exactly when Hill died, but hospital staff told us Sunday afternoon that he was in the intensive care unit.

The sheriff's office took Hill into custody on the night of Tuesday, June 4, according to a statement released Sunday by Sheriff Rocky Holcomb – before his death.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by News 3, an officer says a manager and an officer told Hill to leave a 7-Eleven, but he refused to leave, although the officers said they offered to let him take him home several times. When an officer told him he was under arrest, Hill “became disorderly,” began fighting with officers and attempted to grab an officer's equipment, the alleges. 'officer.

According to a police update, officers responded to the 7-Eleven around 6:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Brigands Way. Officers said they spoke with the business owner who wanted to pursue charges, at which point they attempted to arrest Hill.

While Hill was incarcerated at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, he became “uncooperative and combative,” according to the release, prompting deputies to restrain him “for his safety and that of the officers who arrested him and the deputies of the prison “. An investigation into the Sheriff's Office's handling of the situation is currently being conducted by the Office of Professional Standards, according to Sheriff Holcomb. He said he also requested an independent investigation, led by Virginia State Police.
