Man dead, suspect arrested after shooting and search in Opa-locka

OPA-LOCKA, Florida. – Opa-locka residents woke up suddenly Saturday morning to a shooting and police search involving armored SWAT trucks, a helicopter and police dogs.

Residents of Mirage at Sailboat Cove, at 14301 NW 17 Ave., said they couldn't leave their homes for hours. According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department, there was a shooting shortly before 8:30 a.m. at 1787 NW 142 Lane.

Opa-locka police officers responded first and found a man who had been shot. According to Rodriguez, Miami-Dade Fire Department personnel transported the man to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.

“Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries,” Rodriguez wrote. “A perimeter has been established.”

According to Rodriguez, officers arrested a murder suspect and Miami-Dade homicide detectives were investigating the fatal shooting.
