Man dead, brother charged after stabbing in Attleboro – Boston News, Weather, Sports

ATTLEBORO, MASS. (WHDH) – A man died and his brother was arrested early Monday morning after a stabbing in Attleboro, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said.

The prosecutor's office said police first responded to the scene on Melissa Drive around 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance.

Once there, the prosecutor's office said, investigators found Richard McCormick, 47, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

McCormick was taken to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 a.m., according to the prosecutor's office.

Authorities said McCormick's brother, James, was arrested in connection with the incident and was in custody Monday afternoon on charges of assault with intent to kill and assault.

Police were on scene Monday, with much of the area blocked off by crime scene tape.

Speaking to 7NEWS, resident Kristine Erickson said the neighborhood is normally quiet.

“There’s never a problem,” she said. “So it’s strange that it’s on my street.”

Paul Greto, another area resident, said he had heard Richard and James McCormick arguing in the past.

“But last night I didn’t hear anything,” he said.

Now grappling with the events of Monday morning, James May, who lives across the street, shared his reaction.

“At the end of the day, it’s just sad,” May said. “Bad news is never good, no matter where you are. »

“The brothers have altercations,” May continued. “It’s a family situation. Unfortunately, it ended the way it did. Cooler heads did not prevail.

James McCormick, 51, is expected to be held overnight before his arraignment in Attleboro District Court on Tuesday, the prosecutor's office said.

The prosecutor's office said the investigation into this incident was active and ongoing as of 12:45 p.m.
