Man convicted in deadly shooting at South Bend apartment complex

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – A 22-year-old man was found guilty by a jury for his role in a shooting last year that left a 54-year-old man dead at a South Bend apartment complex .

After a four-day trial, jurors found Jesstin Lottie guilty of reckless homicide in the March 13, 2023 death of Daniel Henderson.

Lottie is one of two people charged in the shooting. Courtney O'Neal was charged with one count of murder and one count of assisting a criminal. O'Neal was arrested in March 2023 while Lottie was arrested two months later.

According to court documents, Lottie and O'Neal fought with Henderson while he was moving his belongings from an apartment on Belleville Circle after Lottie asked Henderson to give her a box of shoes. The altercation ended when Lottie shot Henderson before fleeing.

Lottie's sentencing is scheduled for June 20. While the sentencing range for reckless homicide is one to six years, Lottie could spend up to 26 years in prison due to an additional firearm enhancement charge.

Enhanced firearm is a charge in which the defendant allegedly possessed a device, or firearm, from which a projectile is expelled by explosive force or other form of combustion.

As for O'Neal, she is due in court on May 30.
