Man convicted in 2023 fatal shooting of girlfriend in Richmond apartment

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A man who was convicted in the girlfriend's fatal shooting last year was sentenced in Richmond Circuit Court earlier this week.

On Monday, February 13, 2023, officers were called to the 4200 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. When they arrived, the police reportedly heard a shot fired from inside an apartment. They immediately broke down the door and found Dajon Baskerville, 29, and a woman who had been shot.

The woman – later identified as Summer Fuller, 31 – was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries. Baskerville was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered at the scene.

According to online court records, Baskerville was convicted of second-degree murder — amended from a first-degree murder charge — and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony on March 31, 2024.

On Tuesday, May 28, he was sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison, serving 40 years, with 10 years suspended on the second-degree murder charge and three years on the firearm charge.

A third charge for possession of a firearm by a violent felon was continued and a sentencing hearing is currently scheduled for June 3, according to online court records.
