Man charged with stabbing tourist in New York's Times Square

MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — The man accused of stabbing a tourist in the chest in Times Square on May 11 has been indicted on multiple counts, District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced Monday.

The alleged attack happened around 6:10 p.m. outside a bodega, prosecutors said.

The defendant, Cyril Destin, 61, was sitting on his walker when he pulled out a large kitchen knife and allegedly stabbed a woman who was walking by, officials said.

The victim was treated at Bellevue Hospital.

“When tourists visit New York, they deserve to enjoy our city without fearing for their safety. Cyril Destin compromised this by allegedly stabbing a woman who was visiting his daughter and his daughter’s friend on a school trip,” said Prosecutor Bragg. “I hope the victim continues to heal from this unprovoked attack.”

Destin was charged with attempted assault, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, prosecutors said.

The NYPD told PIX11 News that Destin had been arrested at least 14 times before the stabbing.
