Man charged with shooting 4 people at Millington apartments

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 22-year-old man is charged with attempted murder after police say he shot four people at a Millington apartment complex Tuesday.

According to Memphis police, around 1 a.m., officers responded to the Millington Oaks Apartments at 4916 Navy Road regarding shots fired.

Four victims at the scene told police they were sitting outside when a man approached them. That's when the suspect and the victims began to exchange words.

At that point, the suspect pulled out a handgun and began shooting at the victims, police said.

Investigators say they found six used 9mm bullets at the scene of the shooting.

On July 2 at 2:30 p.m., police say one of the victims called to report that the shooting suspect was walking around the same apartment complex.

Officers arrived on scene and were able to arrest the suspect, later identified as Cameron Wheeler.

Investigators say three of the victims positively identified Wheeler as the shooting suspect during a six-person photo lineup.

Cameron Wheeler is charged with four counts of attempted second-degree murder, four counts of possession of a firearm/commission of a felony and convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

Wheeler is scheduled to appear before a judge Friday morning. He is being held in jail on $500,000 bail.
