Man charged with murder after fatal shooting at KCMO apartment complex

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) — A man has been charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting at an apartment complex in Kansas City, Mo.

Clay County, Missouri, district court records show that on Wednesday, July 3, Jaymes Henderson, 31, of Kansas City, Missouri, was charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful possession of a firearm.

The Kansas City, Missouri, police department said Henderson was arrested at the scene of a fatal shooting around 6 a.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of NW 80th Terrace.

First responders said they were led inside an apartment where they found Christopher Henderson, 27, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said a fight broke out between the two men, leading to the shooting. An investigation is ongoing, in coordination with the Clay County District Attorney's Office.

Court documents indicate Henderson's bail has been set at $1 million. If he is released, he will also be ordered not to possess any type of weapon and will be subject to GPS monitoring.

KCTV5 continues to try to learn more about whether or not the victim and suspect were related. It was also learned that the woman killed at a gas station near 31st Street and Bell Avenue a day later also had the same last name, Henderson. KCPD said there is no known connection between the two incidents that law enforcement is aware of.
