Man charged with attempted murder in fatal shooting at Birmingham Shell station

THE BREAKING NEWS IS HAPPENING NOW. IS THIS LATEST NEWS? THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM HAS FILED A LAWSUIT TO DECLARE A DOWNTOWN GAS STATION A PUBLIC NUISANCE. TONIGHT, THE CITY CLAIMS THAT THE SHELL GAS STATION AND PROPERTIES NEAR THIRD AVENUE ARE A LAUNCHING BASE FOR CRIMINAL ACTIVITY, CLAIMING THAT IN THE PAST YEAR ALONE, POLICE HAVE RESPONDED TO RELATED CASES TO THEFT, KIDNAPPING, ASSAULT AND DANGEROUS DRIVING IN AN EXPOSURE AND MORE. IN JANUARY, POLICE SAY A WOMAN WAS BEATED INSIDE THE GAS STATION, KIDDED AND THEN KILLED. OVER THE PAST MONTH, POLICE HAVE RECEIVED MORE THAN 50 CALLS FROM THE GAS STATION AND NEARBY AREAS. BUT WHAT HAPPENED OVER THE WEEKEND WAS THE LAST STRAW FOR THE CITY. When people shoot everywhere, you don't know who shot who. THEY DON'T. Those who fired these weapons probably don't know they shot anyone. THIS RANDOM SHOOTING LEFT AN INNOCENT BYSTANDER DEAD AND SENT SEVERAL OTHERS TO THE HOSPITAL. AND TONIGHT THERE ARE MORE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE PUBLIC IN THIS AREA. WVTM 13 JARVIS ROBERTSON LIVES IN PREMISES AT THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH THE LATEST ON THIS INVESTIGATION. JARVIS. YES, IT'S TRUE. Sheri and Guy are now in Birmingham, they announced this trial to us on 911 this evening. That was just 50 minutes ago. ONE SURE THING, THEY ARE NOT STANDING AGAINST THE SHELL GAS STATION ON THIRD AVENUE, STATING THAT NEIGHBORHOOD RESIDENTS ARE AT GREAT RISK OF SUFFERING IMMEDIATE AND IRREPARABLE DAMAGE. You said in the last 50 months, 50 calls, but in the last two years there have been hundreds of calls to the Birmingham Police for this Shell gas station and neighboring properties. NOW A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE TO HANG OUT THERE, BUT THE CITY OF BIRMINGHAM AND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT SEE THIS AS A PUBLIC SAFETY PROBLEM, A COMMON PROBLEM. STILL IN A FAMILY LOCATION. THE SHELL GAS STATION ON THIRD AVENUE WEST. SHOOTING LEFT ONE PERSON DEAD AND SIX OTHERS INJURED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, BIRMINGHAM POLICE CHIEF SCOTT THURMOND STAND IN FRONT OF THE CAMERAS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. He says there is a tendency to shoot randomly, leading other people to return fire. We've seen this before, unfortunately, is we have people literally shooting indiscriminately. There is only one gun. Just, just I got a few photos of this sort of thing. THIS SHELL GAS STATION IS A POPULAR WEEKEND HANGOUT PLACE, WITH SHOW DRIVING. AND THIS IS NOT A NEW TREND. CHIEF SAYS BUSINESSES IN THIS AREA NEED TO STRENGTHEN UP AND HAVE MORE CONTROL OVER WHAT HAPPENS ON THEIR PROPERTY. For as long as I can remember, this place has been problematic. So they must have a part in the game and do their part too. THURMOND SAYS BPD HAS A BUSINESS COMPLIANCE UNIT THAT INVESTIGATES ISSUES LIKE THESE. HOWEVER, IT ONLY SAYS THAT THEIR REPORT IS PUBLISHED TO THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE. Again, a total of seven people were shot early Sunday morning at this Shell gas station on West 3rd Avenue. ONE PERSON DIED. SIX OTHER PEOPLE WERE INJURED. ONE OF THE INJURED LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES. At this time we have not been informed of a suspect(s) in this case, but Birmingham Police say two people of interest have been taken into custody for questioning. ANYONE HAVING INFORMATION REGARDING THIS CASE IS URGED TO CALL BPD OR CRIME FAILURES REPORTING LIVE IN DOWNTOWN BIRMINGHAM TONIGHT I'M JARV
