Man charged with attempted homicide after stabbing at WeGo bus stop in Nashville, Tennessee

NASHVILLEM Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities arrested a man Thursday morning after he allegedly attacked another man at a bus stop in the Edgehill area, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, a 911 call came in shortly after 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 30 about two men fighting at the intersection of 12th Avenue South and Wedgewood Avenue .


Several witnesses reportedly heard screaming and observed the suspect – identified by authorities as Jacob A. Boswell, 31 – attack the victim at the bus stop.

Officials say when witnesses approached, they said they noticed Boswell had a knife in his hand and saw him stab the victim, who was lying on the ground covered in blood, at least twice. Additionally, witnesses told law enforcement they saw Boswell kneeling on the victim's head while the victim was on the ground.

Police said the witnesses intervened, using a chair to push Boswell away from the victim while they called 911, but the suspect still held the knife while the witnesses pulled him away. Witnesses reportedly heard Boswell say, “This guy needs to die,” in reference to the victim, as well as, “Someone needs to die, I'm going to kill you!” »

Authorities told News 2 the reason for the fight remains unknown at this time since the victim – described as a 63-year-old homeless man – could not be interviewed due to his injuries, and Boswell refused to make a statement.

When officers arrived on scene, they said Boswell was still standing over the victim with the knife in his hand.

Law enforcement said first responders transported the victim to Vanderbilt Emergency Department to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

According to officials, Boswell has no local history and “clearly has not been in Nashville very long.” He is being held at the Downtown Detention Center on criminal homicide charges, with bail set at $150,000.

This is at least the fourth violent crime reported on a WeGo site this month.

On May 16, two people reportedly got into an argument and one was shot and injured on the steps of WeGo Central. Then, on May 20, police said a woman stabbed a WeGo bus driver in East Nashville.

WeGo officials responded to security concerns after the first two incidents, but on May 24, authorities said a man was shot at least three times at the downtown bus station, leading to the arrest of a teenager.

No further details have been released about Thursday's stabbing.
