Man charged with alleged rape of child | Crime reports

Middleburg, Pennsylvania. — A Snyder County man is jailed on rape charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a young girl in Center Township.

After receiving a tip from Snyder County Children and Youth Services, Sherry Moroz with the Child Advocacy Center spoke with the girl who said the alleged incident happened around March 9, 2018. The girl told Moroz she was at a home where Jeffrey Allen Try, 53, of Middleburg, was caring for her and another family member, according to the affidavit filed by Trp. William Shreve of the State Police in Selinsgrove.

Try allegedly repeatedly attempted to remove the girl's clothes and eventually sexually assaulted her in a bedroom, according to the affidavit.

When police met with Try on April 20, he denied sexually assaulting the girl but acknowledged receiving materials regarding the alleged abuse from Snyder County Children and Youth Services (CYS). Try was also questioned by a CYS employee on April 24 in the presence of police. Try denying the allegations again, Shreve wrote.

On May 9, Try went to the police barracks to take a polygraph test. Shreve noted that Try “showed several signs of extreme deception” during the polygraph test. After police removed the testing equipment, Try admitted to the allegations, according to the affidavit.

Shreve asked Try if he wanted to write the girl a letter. In his letter, Try apologized to the girl but claimed he did not remember the alleged incident, according to the affidavit.

Police charged Try with rape of a child, involuntary deviant sexual intercourse with a person under 16, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault on a person under 13 and assault with modesty on a person under 13 years old. The charges were filed through Bo Trawitz's office.

Try remains incarcerated in the Snyder County Jail on $100,000 bail.
