A Macomb County man was charged with failure to pay nearly $15,000 in child support, while a second man was given 11 months to pay more than $5,000 in child support, or face to be convicted of a crime.

Richard G. Reid, 38, was transferred to Macomb County Circuit Court in Mount Clemens on charges of nonpayment of child support/leaving the state Tuesday by Judge Sebastian Lucido of the Township of 41B District Court. Clinton for failing to pay $14,949 in child support. , according to County Attorney Peter Lucido. He was being held in the county jail Thursday in lieu of $3,737 bail after being arraigned June 7.

The fee was initially authorized in 2022; he was ordered to start paying child support in 2017, according to court records.

Failure to pay child support is punishable by imprisonment of up to four years.

Meanwhile, Kevin Traylor, 41, received an 11-month suspended sentence last week from Macomb Circuit Judge Matthew Switalski after pleading guilty to failure to pay child support on the grounds that he still owed $5,279 in child support, out of an arrears of $14,114 as of June 2023, according to court records. He has been paying child support since 2011 and was charged with the crime last August.

Traylor was ordered to pay at least $250 per month, but if he pays the full amount owed by May 2025, the felony charge will be dismissed and replaced with a misdemeanor charge of disorderly person, punishable by a sentence of up to 90 days in jail, records show.

Traylor was initially held in lieu of $3,528 bail when he was arrested last year, but appears to have posted bond, based on jail records.

Lucido's office has increased its efforts to crack down on child support offenders since last year.

“Ensuring the well-being of our children is a top priority, and we will vigorously pursue those who neglect their financial responsibilities,” Lucido said.
