Man charged in fatal Columbus park shooting

According to the indictment, Tyrez Turner, 18, was charged with two counts of aggravated murder and four counts of murder.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An 18-year-old Columbus man has been charged in connection with a shooting that left two people dead in Krumm Park last week.

According to the indictment, Tyrez Turner was charged with two counts of aggravated murder and four counts of murder for the deaths of 18-year-old Jakwaun Kimbro and 29-year-old Lonnie Johnston. He also faces six other crimes in the case, including tampering with evidence and possessing weapons while under disability.

Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to Krumm Park on the city's east side for a reported shooting the night of June 3. The Franklin County Coroner's Office said Kimbro and Johnston were pronounced dead at the scene. Turner was arrested June 10 on additional criminal charges.

Earlier in the evening, a vigil was held at the park for 18-year-old Da'Mya Cummerlander. She was fatally shot June 2 at a graduation party on Woodsedge Road. Police are investigating whether the shooting at Krumm Park is linked to the vigil.

A 20-year-old man, Kenneth Hairston, was charged with manslaughter in Cummerlander's death.

Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to contact the Columbus Police Homicide Unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477.
