Man charged after alleged stabbing in Deep Cove

A man has been arrested and charged after an alleged stabbing in North Vancouver's Deep Cove neighborhood over the weekend, authorities say.

North Vancouver RCMP said they received several reports on Saturday, shortly after 3 p.m., of a man hitting cars with a knife and attacking a motorcyclist.

The suspect allegedly hit the motorcyclist's helmet with the knife, causing him to fall, according to a press release issued Monday.

The motorcyclist was not injured when he was struck by the knife, but suffered minor injuries when he fell, police said, adding that a motorist at the scene drove him to safety.

British Columbia Emergency Health Services told CTV News they transported one person at the scene of the incident to hospital.

Several police officers were dispatched to the scene near the intersection of Mount Seymour Parkway and Deep Cove Road, where they arrested North Vancouver man Alexander Currie. Police say he also attacked a police officer while in custody.

On Sunday, charges against Currie were approved, including attempted murder, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, mischief, assaulting a police officer and possession of a weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in North Vancouver provincial court Monday afternoon.

In the press release, Const. Mansoor Sahak praised the swift actions of the police in safely apprehending the suspect and thanked the passerby who guided the motorcyclist to safety.

RCMP are asking any witnesses to contact the detachment at 604-985-1311 and quote file number 24-10135.
